As of July 1, 2022, notary commissions are handled by the Illinois Secretary of State’s office and the commission will be sent directly to the notary applicant. Notary signatures are no longer registered with the County Clerk’s office.
The Illinois Secretary of State processes all notary public applications. You can print an application to become a notary public at the Secretary of State’s website:

The Secretary of State’s office is now responsible for all Certificates of Authority on any notarized documents. Contact that office for any questions regarding a Certificate of Authority.
